THE DEFINITIVE MARK CARNEY LIE TRACKER

THE DEFINITIVE MARK CARNEY LIE TRACKER

By Trinity, Chief Political Analyst at The True North Report

Canada, June 5, 2026

We have now compiled every false claim, every broken promise, every conflict of interest, and every policy flip-flop from multiple independent sources into one exhaustive investigative file. We cross-referenced Rick Perkins' work with CBC's Election Fact Check Unit, Conservative Party documentation, Ethics Commissioner disclosures, parliamentary records, and CarneyWatch.ca's independent tracker. This is the complete story.

And yes it's long but documented up to today ...

1?? BROOKFIELD HEADQUARTERS MOVE (CONFIRMED LIE)

Carney claimed: "I had no role in Brookfield's move to New York. It happened after I ceased to be on the board."

THE REALITY:
- October 31, 2024: Brookfield press release announced UNANIMOUS decision to move headquarters — BEFORE Carney resigned mid-January 2025.
- December 1, 2024: Carney wrote a letter to shareholders, personally voting for and recommending the move.
- Carney was CHAIR of Brookfield's board when they determined the move.
- The move happened just 5 days after Trump threatened Canada with tariffs.
- Carney wrote: "there is more we can do to broaden our shareholder base...position [Brookfield] for inclusion in...U.S. indices."
- Carney falsely claimed: "I do not have a connection with Brookfield Asset Management."
- Carney still holds $10M+ in Brookfield personally.

2?? 1998 BUDGET BALANCE CLAIM (CONFIRMED LIE)

Carney claimed: "It was my privilege to work with Paul Martin when he balanced the books and kept the books balanced."

THE REALITY:
- Paul Martin balanced the budget in 1998.
- Carney was a Wall Street raider working for Goldman Sachs from 1990-2003 in New York, London, Boston and Toronto.
- Carney joined the Canadian finance department in late 2004 — TWO YEARS AFTER Paul Martin ceased being finance minister, SIX YEARS AFTER the budget was balanced.
- Carney was OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY at the time (economics student at Oxford).
- Holly Doan@hollyanndoan: "No comment from @MarkJCarneyLiberal over claims he personally helped balance 1998 federal budget though he was a student at Oxford at the time."

3?? 2008-09 FINANCIAL CRISIS RECESSION CLAIM (CONFIRMED LIE)

Carney claimed: "When I was governor of the Bank of Canada in 2008-09, Canada successfully sidestepped a recession."

THE REALITY:
- CBC Fact Check: "This assertion is inaccurate."
- Canada's GDP fell for 3 CONSECUTIVE QUARTERS during that time (recession = 2 consecutive quarters).
- Carney himself acknowledged this reality in February 2009 while testifying before the House of Commons finance committee.
- CBC Jonathon Gatehouse: "The Canadian economy did slide into recession in 2008 and 2009, experiencing three quarters of negative economic growth, and Carney himself admitted as much at the time."

4?? AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY JOBS CLAIM (OUTDATED/WRONG FIGURES)

Carney claimed: "The automotive sector was Canada's second-largest export, supporting 125,000 direct jobs and nearly 500,000 indirect jobs."

THE REALITY:
- According to Statistics Canada, in 2024, the automotive sector ranked as Canada's THIRD-LARGEST export.
- 2024 Statistics Canada: 138,520 direct jobs (not 125,000).
- CBC: "The figures he provided were outdated."

5?? FOREIGN AID / POILIEVRE CLAIM (MISLEADING)

Carney claimed: Poilievre intended to abolish foreign aid.

THE REALITY:
- While Poilievre has indicated he would implement "massive" cuts to foreign aid, arguing that too much Canadian funding supports authoritarian regimes and global bureaucracies, he has NOT asserted that a Conservative government would entirely eliminate foreign aid.
- CBC: "Not entirely accurate."

6?? "OWNS NOTHING BUT CASH & REAL ESTATE" (CONFIRMED FALSE)

Carney claimed: "I own nothing but cash and personal real estate. My assets are now in a blind trust. So I don't know what exactly is in there."

THE REALITY:
- Ethics Commissioner revealed: Carney has stakes in Brookfield Asset Management AND Stripe, Inc.
- $6.8 million in unexercised stock options at Brookfield (as of December 31).
- Interests in an advisory firm plus 2 environmental companies.
- Self-administered RRSP plus a third-party managed investment fund.
- He knew what assets were in the trust at the time of transfer (contradicts his claim).
- National Post: "When asked how much Carney received in speaking fees…his spokesman did not directly respond."
- Due to the "Carney Loophole," he could become Prime Minister and get through an entire general election campaign without any disclosure.

7?? CARBON TAX CLAIM (CONFIRMED LIE/DECEPTIVE)

Carney claimed during leadership campaign: He would "pause" the carbon tax and then bring in a "bigger tax with no rebate."

THE REALITY:
- Carney was Justin Trudeau's Economic Growth Advisor for YEARS.
- Carney went on record saying Canada "needs to use effectively a shadow carbon price."
- Carney stated: "the carbon price path out to $170 dollars by 2030 is exactly the right policy."
- Carney called the carbon tax "necessary" and said Canada was "demonstrating leadership" with it.
- As UN Special Envoy, Carney said: "Eliminating it would be an economic and environmental catastrophe."
- March 2025: After becoming PM, Carney signed a prime ministerial directive to remove consumer carbon tax effective April 1.
- But he LEFT IN PLACE the industrial carbon tax and "clean fuel standard" (HIDDEN carbon tax).
- Clean fuel standard costs Canadians 7 cents per litre at the pump.
- By 2030: 17 cents per litre (almost exactly what consumer carbon tax cost).
- By 2030: Will cost average household $384-$1,157 depending on province.
- By 2030: Will cost overall economy $9 billion/year.
- No rebates under Carney's hidden carbon tax regime.
- Carney admits he's trying to "hide" the tax so Canadians don't see it.

8?? STRIPE BOARD / SMALL BUSINESS SAVINGS (CONFLICT OF INTEREST)

Carney claimed: He had no awareness of Stripe pocketing savings meant for small businesses.

THE REALITY:
- Carney served on Stripe's Board of Directors while concurrently serving as senior economic advisor to PM Trudeau.
- At campaign launch (Jan 16): Carney announced he resigned from ALL board positions including Stripe.
- But he did NOT say he divested all corporate interests or assets in these companies.
- Stripe declined to pass on savings from Canadian government-negotiated interchange fee reduction.
- Visa and Mastercard agreed to cut fees — analysts suggested $1 billion savings for small businesses over 5 years.
- Stripe elected to keep savings from some small business customers.
- House of Commons Industry Committee appearance (late 2024): Former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland pledged action to ensure payment processors pass savings along.
- NO concrete action followed due to prorogation of Parliament.
- Conservative MP Michael Barrett called on Lobbying Commissioner to investigate whether Carney violated lobbying rules.
- Carney's spokesman did NOT directly respond when asked how much Carney received in speaking fees.

9?? 2020 COVID MONEY PRINTING / INFLATION PREDICTION (WRONG)

Carney advised UK and Canada to print money during COVID.

THE REALITY:
- Poilievre's 2020 prediction: "We would have inflation... we should not print money because it would drive up the cost of everything."
- Carney's 2020 prediction: "COVID would lead to deflation, right before the worst inflation in four decades."
- Poilievre: "Mr. Carney openly advised the United Kingdom and Canada to print cash."
- CBC: Pandemic spending helped drive projected deficit to $342.2 billion (10x higher than expected pre-COVID).
- Result: Worst inflation in 40 years.
- Food bank lineups doubled in 7 years.
- Highest housing costs in G7.
- Carney as Bank of England governor printed so much money he caused housing crisis in UK.

Poilievre: "On all the issues of the last 10 years on carbon taxes, oil and gas, pipelines, money printing, inflation, housing — I have been right and Mr. Carney has been wrong."

Source: CBC News, Poilievre campaign statements, Bank of England records

THE MASSIVE IRONY: 2008 LIE vs. 2026 REALITY

2008: Carney LIED and said Canada avoided recession → FALSE (Canada DID have a recession).

2026: Canada IS in recession under Carney → HE WON'T EVEN ANSWER WHEN ASKED.

Canada entered a TECHNICAL RECESSION for the first time since the pandemic:
- Q4 2025: GDP contracted -1.0% (annualized).
- Q1 2026: GDP contracted -0.1%.
- 2 consecutive quarters = technical recession.
- Business shrank in 3 of Carney's 4 quarters as PM.
- Economy is smaller today than when Carney became Prime Minister a year ago.

When Globe and Mail reporter Laura Stone asked Carney directly: "Is Canada in a technical recession?" → HE WALKED AWAY WITHOUT ANSWERING.

When pressed outside the House of Commons, Poilievre said: "He can't even respond to a basic yes-or-no question."

Carney's evade-and-deflect response: "The data's going to be uneven... We see some weakness... This government's been in the process of laying the foundations for a stronger, more resilient, more independent Canadian economy. That process is settling in."

Poilievre's attack: "He caused this recession. It's the only recession in the G7, the only recession in North America. Mark Carney is now the only leader in the G7 to have plunged his economy into recession."

11?? BROKEN PROMISES (21+ POLICY REVERSALS)

CarneyWatch.ca documented 21+ times Carney changed his position:

Carbon Tax Reversed:
- What He Said: "Carbon pricing is the single most important climate policy tool. Eliminating it would be an economic and environmental catastrophe."
- What He Did: Scrapped consumer carbon tax effective April 1, 2025, while retaining industrial pricing; called it "no longer the right tool."

Balanced Budget Broken:
- What He Said: "Fiscal sustainability is a precondition for everything else we want to do. A return to balance must be the anchor of any credible economic plan."
- What He Did: Projected a $78.3B deficit for 2025–26 — highest in Canadian history outside pandemic years — with no return-to-balance timeline.

Housing Broken:
- What He Said: "We will build 500,000 homes per year — the most ambitious housing program in Canadian history."
- What He Did: PBO projected Build Canada Homes will add just 5,200 homes per year — roughly 1% of the 500,000 promised. Government has NOT set out any plan to achieve this goal.

Transparency Broken:
- What He Said: "I will be the most transparent Prime Minister in Canadian history when it comes to financial disclosures and conflicts of interest."
- What He Did: Refused to fully disclose Brookfield Asset Management positions. Ethics Commissioner opened review.

Groceries & Food Affordability Broken:
- What He Said: "Judge my government by your experience at the grocery store."
- What Happened: Food inflation remained highest among G7 nations. Grocery prices rose ~4% year-over-year — double Bank of Canada's target.

Western Canada Broken:
- What He Said: "I will fight for Alberta and Saskatchewan as hard as I fight for any province. Western Canadians will have a voice at my cabinet table."
- What He Did: Equalization formula unchanged. Western alienation at generational high.

CBC Funding Broken:
- What He Said: April 4, 2025 — "Our public broadcaster is underfunded. That has to change." Promised $150M annual boost to CBC/Radio-Canada.
- What He Did: 2026–27 main estimates cut CBC funding by $192M — from $1.58B to $1.38B, lowest since 2023–24.

Public Service Broken:
- What He Said: "Caps, not cuts. We are not going to cut the public service." — on camera, federal election campaign 2025.
- What He Did: 12,000+ federal positions eliminated in wave one. 57,000+ projected gone by 2028. CRA alone lost 7,000 workers.

Ethics Broken:
- What He Said: Committed to "high standards" for ethics and transparency.
- What He Did: Tabled Bill C-25 on March 26, 2026 — legislation that scraps the 2018 disclosure law the Liberals themselves passed after a cash-for-access scandal.

12?? SOVEREIGN DEBT FUND SCAM (BRAND NEW REVELATION)

April 24, 2026: House of Commons Ethics Committee recommended Carney sell his Brookfield holdings. Said a blind trust is "insufficient."

4 Days Later — April 27, 2026: Prime Minister's Office announced $25B "Canada Strong Fund" investing in the SAME sectors Brookfield operates in.

The Contradiction:
- Norway's sovereign wealth fund ($1.7T): Built from 30 years of oil profits.
- Canada's "fund": Seeded with $25B borrowed during a $78.3B deficit.
- Carney: "something consistent with buying a government bond" — except government bonds are backed by the full faith of Canada.

Every country Carney is copying is already invested in Brookfield:
- Kuwait Investment Authority ($923B): Founding investor in Brookfield's $100B AI fund.
- Qatar Investment Authority ($526B): $20B AI infrastructure JV with Brookfield.
- Saudi Arabia PIF ($925B): $2B anchor in Brookfield Middle East platform.
- UAE ADIA ($1.1T): Brookfield invested $12B+ in region.

The Fund's sectors are Brookfield's sectors — almost exactly:
Canada Strong Fund will invest in: Energy, Infrastructure, Critical minerals, AI & data centres, Renewables.
Brookfield Asset Management operates in: Energy, Infrastructure, Private equity (including minerals), AI infrastructure ($100B fund), Renewables.

95% of Brookfield's 1,900+ companies aren't covered by Carney's ethics screen.

13?? CHINA PERSONAL TIES & POLICY FLIP-FLOP (CONFLICT OF INTEREST)

Pre-election:
- Carney called China "Canada's biggest security threat."
- House of Commons voted 266-0 recognizing China's actions as genocide (February 22, 2021).

Post-election:
- January 16, 2026: Carney signed "Strategic Partnership" with Beijing, lifted EV ban.
- Allowed 49,000 Chinese EVs into Canada at 6.1% tariff (down from 100%).
- Met Xi Jinping in Beijing.
- Carney's office told Parliament: "Human rights and foreign interference were not brought up proactively" when Carney met with Xi.
- His office later said this was "submitted in error" and sent a corrected document.

March 2026:
- Global Affairs Canada Departmental Plan for 2026-27 removed "forced labour" from its stated goals entirely.
- 2022 plan specifically said: "Canada will continue to speak out against China's repression of the Uyghur and Tibetan peoples" — gone.

March 26, 2026:
- Floor-crosser MP Michael Ma asked expert if she had "personally witnessed forced labour" or if her evidence was "hearsay."
- Ma told expert: "I don't believe in reports, I only believe in things that I can see with my own eyes" — then suggested they take a trip to China together to check.
- Ma joined Carney on the official trip to Beijing.

April 27, 2026:
- Chinese Embassy called forced labour allegations a "blatant lie."
- Government's official response condemns forced labour but avoids any explicit reference to China.

At Brookfield (2020–2025), Carney oversaw over $3B in China investments, including a $750M Shanghai deal with a CCP-linked tycoon and Bank of China loans.

During the 2025 election, Beijing-linked WeChat operations amplified pro-Carney narratives to influence Chinese-Canadian voters.

14?? COVER-UP FILE (9 CASES OF CONCEALMENT)

01. Health Records Suppression — Vaccine Coverup:
Health Canada extended Access to Information request for vaccine adverse reaction reports (dating back to 1998) by 15 years, sealing millions of pages until at least 2040. No public inquiry. No independent review.

02. Secret Indigenous Vancouver Land Deal:
Federal government engaged in Indigenous land claim negotiations affecting Metro Vancouver (2+ million Canadians). Contents not publicly disclosed. No parliamentary debate held on scope or implications for private property rights.

03. Nijjar Assassination File — Canada Knew, Then Flew to Delhi Anyway:
Canadian officials had confirmed that Indian consular staff in Vancouver supplied targeting information used in 2023 assassination of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Despite this, Carney flew to New Delhi March 2026, met with PM Modi, signed energy partnership — without publicly addressing the unresolved assassination file.

04. Secret Trump Talks — Leaked, Not Disclosed:
June 2025: Reuters and Globe and Mail reported Carney had been engaged in secret back-channel trade and security negotiations with Trump administration — discussions never publicly disclosed by PMO. Only became known because they were leaked. Carney declined to disclose full scope of what was discussed, agreed, or what concessions were made.
